Dental Implants Planning
Dental implants are the closest thing you can have to a natural tooth. It consists of a titanium screw that is analogous to the roots of a tooth, a tooth-colored crown — which is the only visible part in your mouth and will resemble a natural tooth — and an abutment connecting the screw and the crown.

Implants require time to ensure the titanium post osseointegrates — fusing fully with the jawbone — before the visible crown or restoration can be attached. The whole process can take 3 to 6 months depending on bone quality and whether a bone graft was needed.
What the Dental Implant Planning Process Looks Like
At Imagine Dentistry, Dr. Coambs manages planning and restoration from start to finish, coordinating with a trusted Charlotte oral surgeon for surgical placement.
Evaluation and candidacy. Dr. Coambs reviews your history, examines your bite and bone using digital imaging, and confirms adequate bone density. If bone loss has occurred, a bone graft may be recommended first.
Treatment planning. Dr. Coambs maps the ideal implant position for function and esthetics, then shares that plan with your surgical partner.
Surgical placement. The titanium post is placed by your oral surgeon. Osseointegration takes 3 to 6 months.
Restoration. Once integrated, Dr. Coambs uses our iTero Lumina scanner to capture a 3D impression and designs your custom crown or prosthetic, attached and fine-tuned for a perfect bite.
