Even once your teeth have stabilized, your bite continues to experience natural pressure from talking, chewing, and simply aging. Wearing a retainer at night on an ongoing basis is the most reliable way to protect the investment you made in your Invisalign treatment for years to come.

What Happens If You Skip Wearing Your Retainer?

Teeth can begin gradually moving out of alignment within weeks of retainer wear being skipped, and once that movement starts, it does not always reverse on its own. Some patients notice their bite feels different, their teeth start to overlap again, or their smile no longer looks quite like it did right after treatment finished.

• Store it properly: Keep your retainer in its case whenever it is out of your mouth to avoid damage or loss. Store it dry.
• Handle it carefully: Avoid bending wires or flexing clear plastic trays, since small cracks can compromise the fit.
